Advantages of CEREC

Natural, beautiful and durable restorations in one visit

CEREC Dentistry

With breakthrough CEREC technology, Dr. Bischoff has a complete computer-aided laboratory, right here in our own office.

  • CEREC restorations can be completed in one visit.  Whether you need a crown to complete your root canal or a new ceramic inlay to replace an old metal filling, the entire procedure can be completed in one visit.

  • No temporaries necessary.  While this may be an obvious advantage of CEREC, it is an important one. Temporary crowns and inlays are designed to be just that – temporary. They may not fit perfectly, and they may chip or crack more easily than a permanent restoration. Getting custom crowns back from a lab can take anywhere from a day to several weeks. With CEREC, there is no need for temporaries in the first place.

  • Fewer injections and less anesthetic.  CEREC Restorations can be created in minutes and you don’t have to come back for a second appointment. This means less anesthetic for you and fewer injections to keep the area numb.

  • Faster recovery time with less tooth irritation.  CEREC Restorations require less invasive preparation, and the restoration is placed immediately, protecting the tooth and pulp. This helps the tooth and gums recover faster and also prevents any further irritation that can develop when a temporary crown is removed.

  • Less chance for errors or variation during fabrication. With CEREC, a precise 3D scan is sent to the milling machine leaving little to no room for error. Plus, the CEREC lab is on-site, so any needed adjustments can be made immediately.

  • Look like natural teeth.  Ceramic blocks come in 17 shades, which makes color matching more precise and natural-looking. CEREC restorations will match your natural teeth.

  • Natural-feeling – smoothly polished and fitted to your exact bite. CEREC restorations are designed to feel like natural teeth and can be custom polished and shaped so that they align perfectly and feel comfortable in your mouth.

  • Strong and durable. CEREC restorations will last you for many years to come. Studies show that they last at least as long as metal crowns if not longer. They are also healthier for your body and decay-resistant, so your natural tooth structure will be preserved.

  • Bio-compatible material that expands and contracts like natural teeth – which also gives fewer sensitivity problems. CEREC restorations are made from bio-compatible material meaning that they are designed to work with the body in a healthy way. There is no metal, so you don’t have to worry about the dangers of mercury or silver and black lines that form around the gum line from metal crowns. They are less prone to cracks and flaws.  And these restorations are designed to expand and contract with hot and cold so you won’t have problems with sensitivity.

  • A single practitioner controls the entire process from start to finish. One of the greatest benefits of CEREC restorations is that Dr. Bischoff controls the entire process from start to finish. When permanent crowns or inlays are made at a lab, the technician is dependent upon impressions taken from the dentist. He never sees the actual patient or the condition of their teeth and gums to evaluate bite and alignment. Having Dr. Bischoff guiding the entire process ensures success and a perfect fit.

One-Visit Crowns

Dental Crowns Laboratory

Crowns can take up to three visits and the use of a temporary to fully restore your tooth. With CEREC technology this can be done in a single visit while you are in the chair! CEREC's precision 3D technology allows us to create a customized crown that fits your teeth perfectly and is completely biocompatible with your own tooth structure.

CEREC restorations are milled from a single block of high-quality Empress porcelain, one of the most aesthetic and durable porcelains, and a substance that is particularly compatible with the body. CEREC restorations are made under controlled conditions for the best construction and to get them as close to a natural tooth structure as possible.

CEREC reconstructions expand in the same way as teeth do, and also because it comes from a single block, a CEREC restoration is less prone to cracks and flaws than other types of restoration.  CEREC restorations also look more natural as they have a translucency that picks up the natural tooth color underneath.  With natural teeth, light defuses through the enamel and continues until it hits the inner dentine of the tooth, and then it bounces out. CEREC restorations behave in a similar fashion, producing a bright, natural looking smile.

Many people are actually allergic to traditional metal crowns. This shows up as swollen, red and receding gums. Removing metal crowns and replacing them with CEREC restorations allows the gums to recover, returning to a healthy, pink and firm condition.

Dr. Bischoff recommends CEREC restorations due to their durability; typically CEREC restorations he has seen, even after several years, are in the same condition as when first placed.

One Visit Inlays and Onlays

We create beautiful natural smiles

Inlays and onlays are types of restoration used to repair a broken-down tooth or replace an existing large filling.

Inlays are designed for tooth damage affecting the indented portion of the top of the tooth and onlays are for more extensive damage. They are used when the damage is not severe enough to require a crown.

In the past, tooth-colored filling material was not durable enough to withstand the tremendous biting forces required by back teeth, which limited cosmetic dentistry to front teeth restorations. The CEREC system allows us to create beautiful tooth-colored restorations both for front and back teeth that match the color and appearance of the rest of your teeth. It creates the same translucence, color and brilliance as that of your natural healthy teeth.

Unlike traditional inlays and onlays, which can sometimes take several visits and require temporaries; using the CEREC system we can apply these in one visit, often in less than an hour.
